Better late than never, eh?

December 11th, 2008

So I guess I hopped on the blog bandwagon a bit late.  But, as everybody says, better late than never.

San Francisco Fun!To be honest, though, it doesn’t even feel late.  It still feels like the first week up here at Jessup.

Final papers are rearing their ugly heads, Christmas lights adorn light posts, and this all reminds me that it has been four months since I first stepped out of my little white Kia with nothing but a bag of clothes on my back and a pocketful of dreams.  And I don’t want to buy that.  I’ve always heard that time flies when you’re having fun, and now I really believe it.

Overall, this semester has lived up to its billing.  If one made a list of things college was “supposed” to be, the past semester would fit almost every one of them for me.  From deep theological discussions to midnight runs to San Francisco (that one wasn’t our best idea…), to road trips half-way across the country, to camping retreats to all-night paper writing sessions to being blessed with an absolutely amazing group of friends, my Fall ’08 semester had it all.  I learned.  I grew.  I laughed (a lot).  I worked.  I slept (a little).  I discovered different parts of myself, and (hopefully) moved a bit closer to becoming the kind of person that God created me to be–even if it was a “2 steps forward, 1 step back” progression.  But that’s not really a big deal.  That’s not the awesome part.  The awesome part is that God was there.

For all of it.

The awesome part is that God was active and involved and interested and smiling and loving.

For all of it.

This semester has marked my official transition into college-kiddom.  It was a transition that went by all too fast, and that I hope will continue.  For the past four months, I’ve had the amazing opportunity to hang out and learn with an amazing group of God’s sons and daughters.  I’ve been able to serve along side them, and to see them grow as I grow.  I’ve also been able to see God’s love for all us in ways that I never have before.  And oh, what a love that is.

It’s almost over.  It’s almost time for me to head home for Christmas break, and then to (hopefully) head back up here a month later.  And I can’t believe that.  But I’m excited.  I’m excited to be able to share the next four months with all of you who are reading, and I’m excited to see what God is going to do up here at Jessup in the days and weeks to come.  I’m excited to continue learning and growing and loving and living.  God is always calling us to great things- to real life.  Through everything that has happened up here in the last four months, I’ve been able to wake up a little bit to what he’s doing.  And I’m excited.  So yeah, it’s almost over.  But really, it’s just beginning.  May we all stay tuned, on the edge of our seats.  I know I will!
